CPR renewal: start with the correct iGA service
CPR renewal in Bahrain is an identity-card service handled by the Information & eGovernment Authority, usually called iGA. The practical starting point is your existing card: check its expiry, your applicant category and whether your personal details are correct. The official catalogue describes renewal for an expired card or one with one month remaining before expiry. Check the current service conditions before applying, especially if your circumstances have changed.
People often use CPR to mean both the personal number and the physical identity card. This guide concerns renewing the card, not creating a second identity record. Keep your existing personal number and use the official Identity Card Services portal to identify the appropriate application. A government-services adviser can help organise the file, but iGA determines eligibility and the outcome.
Renewal, replacement and address changes are different
An expired card, a damaged card and an outdated address are three different problems. Renewal extends the card through its applicable process. A replacement service addresses loss or damage. Residential-address services update the recorded address and may request evidence relevant to the housing arrangement. Do not assume that paying for renewal corrects every other record automatically.
If you have moved or changed personal details, identify the separate update required before submitting. The official portal distinguishes civil-record changes and address services from renewal. Ask what must be corrected first and retain the response. This prevents a renewed card being issued from information that still needs attention.

Check the conditions for your applicant category
The renewal catalogue contains separate conditions for individuals, workers, domestic workers and people acting as representatives. Read the heading above a requirement before treating it as yours. Commercial-register and representative-registration conditions do not mean that every individual renewing a CPR must own a business.
For non-Bahraini worker categories, the catalogue refers to presence in Bahrain, a personal number, LMRA registration and valid residence under NPRA rules. Family applications and applications submitted for another person have their own account and authorisation conditions. If you cannot select the intended person or transaction, seek clarification instead of selecting a different category simply to proceed.
- Identify whether you are applying for yourself, a family member or a worker.
- Match your circumstances to the live service’s applicant-category conditions.
- Confirm the underlying identity, residence and worker records where relevant.
- Use authorised representation rather than casually sharing account credentials.
CPR renewal does not renew residence or work permission
The identity card, residence permit and work permit are separate records. iGA handles identity-card services, NPRA handles the applicable immigration and residence services, and LMRA handles work-permit transactions. A successful card renewal does not itself extend an employee’s work permission or a family member’s residence.
Check each expiry and any unresolved underlying record independently. If the worker or residence information needed by iGA is not current, contact the responsible authority or employer about that record. Do not keep resubmitting the same CPR application while assuming the linked issue will resolve itself. The family-residence guide explains the separate spouse-and-child preparation route.
Prepare the photo and documents requested for your case
The official renewal catalogue lists a personal photograph and explains that the online service can request additional documents when particular conditions are not met. Build the file from that instruction, not from a universal third-party list. Housing, relationship or representative evidence can be relevant in particular circumstances without being mandatory for every applicant.
Use readable copies that preserve complete names, dates, stamps and page edges. Compare the identity details with the application before uploading. If a marriage certificate or other foreign document is requested, check its accepted language and authentication requirements for that precise service. Do not buy an attestation package simply because another applicant used one.
- Existing card and personal number: available for checking the record.
- Photo: prepared against current iGA guidance and upload specifications.
- Requested supporting documents: selected for the actual applicant and conditions.
- Contact and fulfilment details: checked before confirming the request.
Check iGA photo requirements before uploading
iGA publishes a dedicated identity-card photo guide. Its guidance describes a recent colour image with a white background, a forward-facing position, clearly visible eyes, a neutral expression and the whole head and upper shoulders visible. The image should not be altered to change the person’s appearance. Avoid glare, red-eye and shadows that obscure facial details.
Read the current guide and upload screen for framing, digital format and file-size rules. A photograph suitable for another country’s passport application may not match this service. Ask the photographer for the appropriate digital file and keep the original available. If the upload is rejected, correct the actual issue rather than renaming the same file repeatedly.

- CPR renewal does not renew these
How to renew your CPR through the official portal
Start at Bahrain’s official Identity Card Services page and choose the supported renewal service. Family ID Card Services includes personal and family card details, renewal and request-status functions. Follow the current authentication and applicant-selection instructions; screen names and available routes can change.
Review the selected person’s details before attaching documents. Read any additional request, check the displayed charges and use the delivery or collection options offered for that application. Submit only when the information and attachments match. Save the application acknowledgement and payment evidence, which are useful if you need to clarify what happened.
- Select the correct renewal service and applicant.
- Review identity details and resolve discrepancies.
- Upload a compliant photo and specifically requested evidence.
- Check contact details, fulfilment options and official charges.
- Submit, save the reference and monitor the request status.
Follow status, correction and collection instructions
A payment receipt is not proof that the card is ready. Return to the official request-status service and read any notice asking for a correction or additional evidence. Keep the application reference when contacting iGA. Where a payment or submission is unclear, check its status before starting another request or making a second payment.
Follow the collection or delivery instruction for your approved application. Do not assume a service centre accepts walk-ins or that another person can collect without authorisation. If attendance is required, use the official appointment route and bring the evidence specified in the confirmation. After receiving the card, check the details and save the new expiry in your own document calendar.
Common CPR renewal questions
Can I renew before expiry? The renewal catalogue describes the expired-card or one-month-before-expiry condition. Check the live instructions if you need a different arrangement rather than relying on an informal wider window.
Does everyone need a tenancy agreement? No universal tenancy-agreement upload is established by the renewal list. Housing evidence can become relevant to an address update or an individual document request. Follow the actual service instruction.
Can I apply from outside Bahrain? iGA describes a separate overseas service for Bahraini citizens. Do not assume that announcement gives every expatriate abroad the same route. Confirm the service appropriate to your nationality and circumstances.
What is the fee and completion time? Use the official charges and application-specific information. This guide does not promise a fixed price or approval date; additional requirements can affect the work involved.
Arrange a focused document review
When requesting help from Keylink, explain the applicant category, card expiry and the exact issue or document request. That allows a focused review instead of an unnecessary bundle of services. Keep passwords private and share identity records through an appropriate private channel. Approval and any required corrections remain with the competent authority.
Keylink’s CPR paperwork support is listed on its main document-clearance page; clarify whether the task is renewal or a separate update.
